The system administrator (and designated personnel) can
then perform functions such as retrieving reports on printer
usage, updating the settings of one or many network
printers simultaneously, and managing MINOLTA-QMS
printers as well as some Minolta copiers and other manu-
facturers' network printers from the PageScope utility.
In addition to these common tasks, PageScope delivers a
wide variety of benefits to its users:
•Auto-discovery: PageScope seeks out SNMP-compliant
TCP/IP printers on the network. Auto-discovery of
printers makes installation and configuration of new
printers easier, especially in networks that span a large
area.
•Prevent Changes to Printer Settings: Administrators
can lock the console panel on MINOLTA-QMS printers.
This disables the keys on the printer's control panel and
prevents anyone from using the panel to make any
change to the printer. The administrator and registered
users of PageScope may still make changes remotely.
•Change Printer Settings Remotely: The system admin-
istrator can make changes to the default settings of any
printer discovered by PageScope or any newly installed
printers. Using PageScope, the administrator may
establish a new IP address for any printer on the net-
work by matching the MAC address for the printer.
•Organize Printers in Groups: The system administrator
can organize network printers into smaller groups for
easier management of large networks. The administrator
can change this view dynamically during a PageScope
session.
•Group Settings: By establishing groups of printers, the
system administrator can view and edit settings for simi-
lar printers. The grouping feature allows the administrator
to quickly monitor or manage only the printer used by a
specific department, workgroup, building location within
