5.3 Replacing the Electronics Module

5.3.2 Installing a Video Decoder Card

The video decoder is a small, optional board inside the electronics module which processes C-Video
and S-Video for display.
This job requires you to remove the electronics mod-
ule and open it. Be sure to wear a grounding strap on
your wrist to avoid damage to sensitive parts in the
electronics module.
!
There are two types of Wildcats: the original Wildact
(WN-4030) and the Wildcat SE (WN-4030-SE). The
procedure is the same for both, but the pictures are
slightly different.
1. Turn off the lamp, if it is on, and open the screen.
(It is not possible to do this job from the rear.)
2. Turn off the AC power switch and remove the
cord.
3. Always remove the power cord when adding a
Video Input Module board.
4. Connect your wrist grounding strap to a metal
part of the chassis.
5. Remove all source input and output connectors
from the electronics module.
6. Remove all connectors on the right side of the
electronics module.
a) Start with the connectors nearest you and work
downward. All connectors except the bottom
one pull straight up.
b) The flat, gray ribbon cable (the farthest connec-
tor from you) has levers at each end of the con-
nector. Move these away from the cable to
remove this connector.
c) All the connectors are different, so you can't
mix them up.
7. Remove the DC power input cable near the bot-
tom left side of the electronics module.
8. Wear a grounding strap on your wrist.
WARNING
Failure to properly use a grounding strap can
destroy sensitive electronic components in the
electronics module.
9. Remove the two screws at the upper end of the
electronics module that hold it to the chassis.
10. Slide the electronics module up toward you and
lift it out.
11. Remove the top cover of the electronics module. It
has no screws. Pry the springy tabs on the upper
76
end to open the top. Press up on the black tab
while pulling back on the gray tabs.

The Big Picture Option key, if there is one, can stay in
place while you take off the cover. However, if you
remove it, be sure that all 6 pins are inserted correctly
when you put it back. If only 3 pins are connected, the
BP key may be destroyed when power is applied.
1. Insert the video decoder board in its place and
secure it with two screws.
2. Close the cover of the electronics module.
3. Slide the electronics module back down into its
place and secure it with two screws near the top.
4. Reconnect the DC power cable to the bottom, left
connector.
5. Reconnect the cables on the right side of the elec-
tronics module, starting with the flat, gray ribbon
cable at the bottom and move up.
6. Reconnect all the input and output cables.
7. Reconnect the AC power cord, and turn on the
AC power switch.
