2.1.2.5 How to Read the Status Menu

The Status Menu is a quick way to see the state of the display, so it makes a good troubleshooting tool.
This is also where you set the RS232 ID for each display.
The Status menu simulates many of the inside LEDs
plus a lot more. To see the Status menu, press moni-
tor on the remote control. If the lamp is on, the
screen will show the menu on the facing page. If the
lamp is not on, you may see flashing or blinking
lights in the lower left part of the screen. See "How to
Read On-Screen Status Code" on page 22 for an
explanation of these lights.
Controls at the top of the Status menu:
RS232 Address sets the address for RS232 commands
from the controlling computer. There are 256 hex
addresses from 00 to FF. Select this with the up-
down arrows and use the +/– arrows (right-left) to
change the value. The second digit of this numbers
also, incidentally, sets the Lamp Delay time which
you can see in the Misc Control menu. (See the
"Lamp Delay" entry in "Setting Default Condi-
tions" on page 128.)
Disable IR and Hide Menu: When you press this
momentary push button, the menu disappears,
and the display does not respond to most IR com-
mands from the remote. Only the lamp off, cur-
tain, and monitor buttons still operate. This is
useful for prevent stray IR from high-intensity
lights from disturbing the display settings, and to
prevent casual passers-by from picking up the
remote and fiddling with your hard work. To
resume remote control, press the Monitor button
again. The Monitor Status menu appears and unit
is back to normal control.
LEDs are in the left column:
Lamp On is on when the lamp is lit. It is off when
the lamp is off, but then you couldn't see this
menu.
Intk Fan is on when the intake fan is running. It
flashes if the intake fan is supposed to be running
but it is not, which will prevent the lamp from
lighting, and you couldn't see this menu.
Exht Fan is on when the exhaust fan is running. It
flashes if the exhaust fan is supposed to be running
but is not, which will prevent the lamp from light-
ing, and you couldn't see this menu.
Standby is always off when you see it in this menu.
The real Standby LED flashes slowly or quickly or
stays on without flashing, and this can tell you a
26
lot about the state of the display, as explained in
"How to Read the Inside LEDs" on page 24. How-
ever, these other conditions mean the lamp is off,
and you can't see this menu.
Temp is on if all temperatures are within the toler-
ance limits. It flashes if one of them goes over its
limit, but this does not turn off the lamp. (The
current temperatures are shown at the right side of
this menu.)
Intrlock is always on when you see this menu. The
real, inside LED flashes if any interlock is open, as
explained in "How to Read the Inside LEDs" on
page 24, but the lamp is not on in these cases, and
you can't see this menu.
Source is lit if the currently selected source is valid. It
is off if there is no signal on the Selected Source, or
if the signal is present but invalid or out of range.
CPU blinks on and off, once per second, if the CPU is
working. If it is off, or if it is on without blinking,
the Central Processing Unit (the "brains") of the
electronics module is locked up. The picture may
still be displayed, but you won't be able to control
this unit with the remote or with RS232 com-
mands.
RS232 information is in the middle column:
Activity turns on if there is any character detected at
the RS232 input connector. It does not necessarily
indicate a good RS232 command. It stays on for at
least one second.
Command flashes briefly if a valid command is
detected, and the command is meant for this dis-
play. It might be a global command to all units or a
command addressed to this unit only.
OvRun, Noise, Frame, and Parity show the status of
the UART in the RS232 processor.
Rx and Tx show the number of received and trans-
mitted RS232 commands.
LCD, Lamp, and Board, in the right column, show
the temperature at the three temperature sensors.
The bottom rows give information about the selected
source. If any of these figures are in red, they are out-
side the acceptable range. See "Specifications for the
WN-4030" on page 134.
