Set the serial port on Windows XP

From the Start menu, choose Settings and then Control Panel.
From the Control Panel, choose the System icon.
Choose the Hardware tab, and then choose the Device Manager button.
Press the "+" next to Ports and double click the Communications Port to open the
Communications Port Properties dialog box (Figure C-5).

Choose the Port Settings tab.

If the PC has more than one serial port, make sure you view the settings for
the serial port to which the smart card module is attached.
Choose the following settings:
Setting Value
Baud rate 9600
Data bits 8
Parity None
Stop bits 1
Flow control None
When the settings are correct, click OK to save settings and close the dialog box.
