CHECKING AND ADJUSTING THE STEERING HEAD /
CHECKING THE FRONT FORK / ADJUSTING THE FRONT FORK LEGS
Steering stem nut
110 Nm (11 mSkg)
Upper bracket pinch bolt
30 Nm (3.0 mSkg)
Handlebar holder bolt
23 Nm (2.3 mSkg)

CHECKING THE FRONT FORK

1. Stand the motorcycle on a level surface.
WARNING
Securely support the motorcycle so that
there is no danger of it falling over.
2. Check:
S inner tube
Damage/scratches ! Replace.
S oil seal
Oil leakage ! Replace.
3. Hold the motorcycle upright and apply the
front brake.
4. Check:
S operation
Push down hard on the handlebar several
times and check if the front fork rebounds
smoothly.
Unsmooth operation ! Repair.
Refer to "FRONT FORK" in chapter 4.

ADJUSTING THE FRONT FORK LEGS

The following procedure applies to both of the
front fork legs.
WARNING
S Always adjust both front fork legs evenly.
Uneven adjustment can result in poor han-
dling and loss of stability.
S Securely support the motorcycle so that
there is no danger of it falling over.
Spring preload
CAUTION:
S Grooves are provided to indicate the ad-
justment position.
S Never go beyond the maximum or mini-
mum adjustment positions.
