Server Management 5.x includes diagnostic and troubleshooting tools and features, such as:
Remote confidence test: A feature exclusive to the SSH4 platform, the remote confidence test tools reside on the
service partition and are used to test the function and integrity of various server components. A remote confidence
test session is started from the Platform Instrumentation Console (PIC) of a remote console; these tools can only be
run from the service partition - the primary operating system on the server to be tested must be shutdown.
Health monitoring: The Platform Instrumentation Control component of Intel Server Management monitors a large
number of sensors and components in the server. System event alerts can be generated as a proactive means of
managing the server. The health of a managed component can be checked from one or more consoles on the
network or through the command line interface.
Intel SMaRT Tool integration: The Platform Instrumentation Console in Release 5.x of Intel Server Management
supports the integration of the Intel Server Maintenance and Reference Training Tool (Intel SMaRT Tool) to aid in
troubleshooting and repair.
Remote power cycling and reboot: The server can be started or shut down remotely, either gracefully if the
operating system is available or by powering the server off, or on if the operating system is not available.
