Parallel Port

The 586STE system board has a standard printer port (J4) for interfac-
ing your PC to a parallel printer. It supports SPP, ECP and EPP modes.
You can set the port' s mode in the Integrated Peripherals setup of the
Award BIOS (Refer to Chapter 3).

The parallel port on your system board can be set to any of the following
system I/O addresses:

Floppy Disk Drive Controller

The 586STE system board is equipped with a shrouded floppy disk
header that supports two standard floppy disk drives. You can install
any 360KB, 720KB, 1.2MB, 1.44MB, or 2.88MB floppy disk drives. To
prevent improper floppy cable installation, the shrouded floppy disk
header has a keying mechanism. The 34-pin connector on the floppy
cable can be placed into the header only if pin 1 of the connector is
aligned with pin 1 of the header.
Connecting the Floppy Disk Cable
1. Install the 34-pin floppy disk cable header into the floppy disk con-
nector (J6) on the system board. The colored edge of the ribbon
should be aligned with pin 1 of connector J6.
Function
Allows normal speed operation but in one
direction only.
Allows parallel port to operate in bidirectional
mode and at a speed higher than the maxi-
mum data transfer rate.
Allows bidirectional parallel port operation at
maximum speed.
