Receiving information

1.
Align the IR ports so that they are unobstructed and within a close
range.
2.
Have the owner of the other device send the information to you. Your
Toshiba Pocket PC e830 automatically receives it.
Connecting to the Internet
You can connect to your ISP, and use the connection to send and receive
email messages and view Web or WAP pages.
You can connect to work in one of two ways:
Create a modem connection. If this is the method you want to use, see
"Creating a modem connection to an ISP" below.
Use an Ethernet card and a net tap to connect to the network. If this is
the method you want to use, see "Creating an Ethernet connection to
an ISP or network."

Creating a modem connection to an ISP

1.
Obtain the following information from your ISP: ISP dial-up access
telephone number, user name, password, and TCP/IP settings.
Some ISPs require information in front of the user name, such as
MSN/username.

If your Toshiba Pocket PC e830 does not have a built-in modem,
install a modem card, or use or use a NULL modem cable and
appropriate adapters to connect an external modem to your Toshiba
Pocket PC e830 through the serial port.

Tap
, Settings, Connections tab, Connections.
4.
In My ISP, tap Add a new modem connection, and follow the
instructions in the New Connection wizard.
To change modem connection settings, in either My ISP
NOTE
or My Work Network, tap Manage existing connec-
tions. Select the desired modem connection, tap Edit,
and follow the instructions on the screen.
