Attention:
The microprocessor fits only one way on the socket. You must
place a microprocessor straight down on the socket to avoid damaging the
pins on the socket. The pins on the socket are fragile. Any damage to the
pins may require replacing the system board.
e. Carefully close the microprocessor release lever to secure the
microprocessor in the socket.
8. Install a heat sink on the microprocessor:
Attention:
Do not touch the thermal grease on the bottom of the heat sink or
set down the heat sink after you remove the plastic cover. Touching the thermal
grease will contaminate it. If the thermal grease is contaminated, call IBM
service and support to request a replacement thermal grease kit. For
information about installing the replacement thermal grease, see "Thermal
grease" on page 74.
a. Remove the plastic protective cover from the bottom of the heat sink.
b. Align the heat sink so that the arrows on the label point toward the system

c. Align the screw holes on the heat sink with the holes on the system board;
then, place the heat sink on the microprocessor with the thermal-grease side
down.
d. Tighten the screws with a screwdriver, alternating among the screws until
they are tight. If possible, each screw should be rotated two full rotations at
a time. Repeat until the screws are tight. Do not overtighten the screws by
