    You must ensure that the remote controller's discharged batteries as well as any other electronic scrap items are not put in your household waste, but are disposed of correctly (returned to the dealer as special wastel). 3.3 Safety notes You should read through the safety regulations carefully for your own protection, before you switch the new equpment on.

    4 Connecting up the DVB receiver Connect the aerial to the Aerial input on the DVB receiver. Connect the HDMI connection on the DVB receiver to the TV. Connect the Scart connection on the DVB receiver to the TV. Connect the Aerial output to the TV. Connect the Audio output to your HiFi system.

    4.1 External unit Use the cable comming from the terrestrial aerial (roof or room aerial) to connect up to the terrestrial aerial input on the receiver. A roof aerial should be used whenever possible. A room aerial might be sufficient if reception is very good.

    4.4 Smartcard Insert the Boxer (Viaccess)-Card (gold chip facing downwards and aligned correctly) carefully up to the stop in the card reader (see Section 2 illustrations). 4.5 Mains connection Connect the mains supply to the digital receiver only after all of the connection cables for the other components have been fitted to the unit.

    5 Initial installation After you have read the Safety instructions and connected up the unit as described in Chapter 4 you can now switch the unit on as described in Chapter 7. The installation assistant start up window AutoInstall will be displayed the first time that the unit is switched on.

Basic setup You will set up the screen format and the aerial feed in this installation step. > Use the up/down arrow keys to mark the Display Format line and then use the left/right arrow keys to select the 16:9 or 4:3 screen format.

    9 Technical terms Aerial cable: The connecting cable used between the aerial output on the receiver and the aerial input on the TV, which enables analog TV programmes to be received by the TV. see SCART MPEG1/MPEG2 data compression: A digital data package of 216 Mbits/s is needed to transmit current TV standards (625 lines and 50 Hz screen repition frequeny).
