Installing your Matrox Multi card

The Matrox Multi card is a three-quarter-length PCIe ×8 card designed to operate
in an Intel-based Mac Pro or Apple Xserve system. You can install multiple
Matrox Multi cards in one system. The maximum number of Multi cards that you
can install depends on the number of suitable PCIe slots in your system. For
detailed instructions on how to perform the following steps, refer to your Mac
Pro or Xserve documentation.
Shut down your Mac Pro or Xserve system, unplug the power cord and all
1
the cables from the unit, and open the Mac Pro or Xserve chassis.
Ensure that the genlock loop-through switch on the card is set as desired (see

Insert the Matrox Multi card in an available PCIe slot in your Mac Pro or
3
Xserve, and secure the card into place.
²Caution
system, ensure that the metal mesh gasket around the slot opening on the
Xserve does not bend and make contact with any pins or components on the
Multi card.
Close your Mac Pro or Xserve chassis, and reconnect the power cord and all
4
the cables to the unit.

Installing your Matrox Multi software

You can install the Matrox Multi software on a computer with or without the
Multi card installed. To download and install the Matrox Multi software, visit the
Multi Support section of our website at www.matrox.com/video/support. You can
also contact your Multi dealer for software.

Updating your Multi firmware

When you install the Multi software on a computer with the Multi card already
installed, the software installation automatically verifies the firmware on your
Multi card and updates it if required. However, if you install the Multi software
on a computer without the Multi card installed, your card may have a firmware
version that is not supported by the installed Multi software. Once you install the
Multi card, if it has an incompatible firmware version, a message regarding the
incompatibility between the Multi software and firmware will appear in the
Matrox Multi preferences window, along with a Launch firmware updater
button.
To update the Multi firmware from the Matrox Multi preferences window, click
Launch firmware updater
required to shut down your system to complete the firmware update.
Chapter 2, Installing Your Matrox Multi Hardware and Software
To avoid damage to the Multi card when installed in an Xserve
to run the Matrox Firmware Updater. You'll be
