Windows
WYSIWYG
A technology that allows memory to be expanded
more than the actual main memory of the computer.
When Windows is used in Enhanced mode with an
i386 (SX) or newer CPU, a part of the hard disk is
used as a swap file and a part of the information
stored in the main memory is stored in the swap file
thereby virtually expanding the capacity of the main
memory.
An impression made in a wet sheet of paper as it is
being manufactured. Impressions can be seen when
the sheet is held up to light. Water marks usually
can be seen from the felt side (top side).
A measuring method used to check the surface
strength of a sheet. Wax pick characterizes the
resistance of the sheet's surface layer to the break-
away of surface fragments (as expressed in Dennison
units).
That area of a layout that contains no text or graph-
ics, but is nonetheless used as an active design
element.
An operating system developed by Microsoft that
offers an efficient and user-friendly graphical envi-
ronment using a mouse, menu screens, and a simpli-
fied user interface. Windows runs in real mode,
standard mode, or enhanced mode. However,
SuperScript only works with Windows 3.1 in
Enhanced Mode.
What You See Is What You Get
In the Windows environment, the fonts handled by
the computer are displayed on the screen and printed
on the printer with exactly the same attributes. It
means that what is displayed on the screen will be
output exactly produced by the printer.
