Starting The Engine
Alwayskeephandsandfeet dear of moving parts. Donot usea pressurized
starting fluid. Vaporsareflammable.
NOTE: Allow the engine to warmup forafew minutes after starting.The
enginewill not develop full poweruntil it reaches o peratingtemperatures.
Makecertainboththe augercontrol a ndwheeldrivecontrolarein the
disengaged (released) position.
Insertkeyintoslot.Makesureit snaps into place.Donot attemptto turn the
key.
NOTE: Theenginecannotstartwithout the keyfullyinsertedinto the
ignitionswitch.
Eiectrk Starter
Theoptional e[ectrk starter isequipped with agrounded powerplug, and
isdesignedto operate on an extensioncord ratedfor 15ampsat 125volts,
groundedandratedfor outdoor useusing 120volt AChouseholdcurrent,it
mustbe usedwith a properly groundedthree-prong receptacleat ai[ times
to avoid the possibility of eiectrk shock.Follow all instructionscarefully
prior to operating the electricstarter.
Determine thatyourhome'swiring isathree-wiregrounded system. A skalicensed
electrician if youarenot certain.
If youhaveagrounded three-prongreceptacle, proceed asfollows:
1.
Plugan extension cordintothe outlet located onthe engine'ssurface. P lug
the otherendof extension cordinto athree-prong120-volt, g rounded, A C
outletina well-ventilated area.
6.
Asthe enginewarms,slowlyrotatethe chokecontrol t o the RUN position.If
the enginefalters,restartengineandrunwith chokeat half-choke position
for ashortperiodof time,andthenslowlyrotatethechokeinto the RUN
position.
7.
Afterengineisrunning,disconnect powercordfrom electricstarter.When
disconnecting, alwaysunplugthe endat the walloutlet before unplugging
the oppositeendfromthe engine.
RecoilStarter
Donot pull the starter handle whilethe engine running.
1.
Movethrottlecontrolto FAST ( rabbit)_1
position.
2.
Movechoke to the CHOKE I ,,1¢1position(coldenginestart).Ifengineis
warm,placechokeinthe RUN position.
3.
Push primerthreetimes,makingsureto coverventholewhenpushing.
Ifengineiswarm,pushprimeronlyonce. A lways covervent holewhen
pushing. C ool w eathermayrequireprimingto berepeated.
4.
Pull g entlyonthe starter handle until it begins to resist, t henpullquicklyand
forcefully to overcome t he compression. Engine shouldstart.Donot release t he
handle andallowit to snapback. R eturn ropeSLOWLY to originalposition. I f
required, repeat t hisstep.
5.
Asthe enginewarms,slowlyrotatethe chokecontrol t o the RUN position.If
the enginefalters,restartengineandrunwith chokeat half-choke position
for ashortperiodof time,andthenslowlyrotatethechokeinto the RUN
position.
Toavoid unsupervised engine operation, neverleavethe machine
unattended with the engine running. T urnthe engine off after useand
removekey.
Theextensioncordcanbe any length, but must be ratedfor 15ampsat 125
volts, groundedand ratedfor outdoor use.

Movethrottle control t o FAST ( rabbit)_
position.
3.
Movechoketo the CHOKE position [,jC[ (coldenginestart).
NOTE: Ifthe engineisalready warm,place chokecontrolinthe RUN position
instead of CHOKE 12¢I position.
4.
Pushprimerthreetimes(3x),makingsureto coverventholein primerbulb
whenpushing.Ifengineiswarm,pushprimeronlyonce. A lwayscovervent
holewhenpushing.Cool w eathermayrequireprimingto berepeated.
5.
Push starterbuttontostart engine.Once the enginestarts,immediately
release starterbutton.Electric starterisequipped with thermaloverload
protection;system will temporarilyshut-downtoallowstarterto coolif
electricstarterbecomes o verloaded.
Stopping The Engine
Afteryouhavefinishedsnow-throwing, r unengineforafew minutes before
stoppingto help dryoff anymoisture onthe engine.

Movethrottlecontrolto STOP ( _
position.

2.
Remove the key. R emoving thekeywill reduce thepossibility o f unauthorized
startingoftheengine whileequipment isnotinuse. K eep thekeyinasafe place.
The engine cannot s tartwithoutthekey.
3.
Wipeall snowandmoisture fromthe areaaroundthe engineaswellasthe
areainandaroundthe wheeldrivecontrolandaugercontrol.Also, e ngage
andrelease bothcontrolsseveral times.
Toprolong starter life, useshort starting cycles(5secondsmaximum,then
wait one minute).
