This section describes how to:
• Install Ethernet support.
• Install modem support.
To install Ethernet support
If you have installed retail Windows and your HP Notebook contains a built-in 3Com
10/100 Mini PCI Ethernet Adapter, you need to install the LAN drivers. The LAN drivers
are contained in the \HP\DRIVERS\NT4\LAN subdirectory.
Before you begin, create a directory on C: called "OPTIONS" and copy the i386
directory of the Windows NT installation CD into the C:\OPTIONS directory.
The following Windows NT setup procedure assumes that networking has not been
installed on your computer.
Before setting up the adapter, you will need to know:
• Your network file server name, network account user name, and password
• Protocol used in the Microsoft Windows network (NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible
• NT Server domain or workgroup to which you belong
• Your IP address (unless you are using DHCP)
Follow these steps to install the 3Com 10/100 Mini PCI Ethernet Adapter driver when
networking has not been installed:
1. In the Control Panel, double-click Network.
2. When the system prompts: "Windows NT Networking is not installed. Do you want

4. When the system prompts to have setup start searching for a network adapter, click
