System Software Download

Background

To allow performance or feature upgrades, new Model Two system software can be down-
loaded through the RS-232 serial communication port located on the rear panel. The
software is encrypted, and download verification steps ensure that the code is properly
decrypted and functional. The download process does not typically erase or overwrite user-
defined presets.
System software updates are provided on floppy disk for PC-based systems. Future updates
may also be provided through modem downloads.
CAUTION: Existing system software and setup parameters (but not user generated
presets) are deleted during download. Model Twos are supplied with a floppy disk
containing the installed system software version to allow reloading. If you are not
familiar with using and setting up Windows on a PC, you should have someone else
who is perform this procedure, or call Pacific Microsonics for help.

Required Equipment

To download new system software, the following items are required:
1. The new Model Two system software version, provided as a hex format ASCII file,
which is contained in the software distribution floppy disk.
2. A PC running Windows 3.11 or Windows 95/98. The PC must be able to send &
receive ASCII files over an RS-232 serial communication port at 9600, 19200,
38400 or 57600 baud rates.
