Digital Output Phase Invert Menu

The Digital Output Phase Invert Menu is reached from the Operating Menu by selecting
(SETUP/OUTPUT/PHASINV).
Function button #1 (NORMAL) selects normal phase, button #2 (INVERT) selects inverted
absolute phase (both channels inverted), and function button #3 (L_INVRT) selects in-
verted relative phase (left channel only inverted). Pressing ENTER activates the selected
mode. Selecting L_INVERT will light the System Status Indicator orange for "Non Standard
Operation".

Digital Output HDCD Setup Menu

The Digital Output HDCD Setup Menu is reached from the Operating Menu by selecting
(SETUP/OUTPUT/HDCD_16).
Function button #1 (PEAKEXT) toggles between Peak Extension ON, HDCD Limiting (LIMIT)
ON and OFF. Peak Extension is a restorable (with HDCD decoding) 9 dB soft peak limiter
with a threshold of -3 dBfs that can increase dynamic range up to 6 dB when decoded.
HDCD Limiting is the same as Peak Extension, except that HDCD decoding doesn't undo it.
Button #3 (LOWLVL) selects between three Low Level Extension options. When NORMAL
mode is selected, HDCD 16-bit amplitude encoding uses a very gradual 4 dB restorable
(with HDCD decoding) companding algorithm below -45 dBfs to improve low level resolu-
tion and increase dynamic range. Setting LOWLVL to OFF turns off low level signal
companding. Setting LOWLVL to SPECIAL mode selects 7.5 dB companding with a thresh-
old of -39 dBfs. The primary use of SPECIAL mode is to make HDCD master recordings on a
16-bit recorder which will then be decoded to 20-bit for editing. For more information on
Peak Extension, HDCD Limiting and Low Level Extension see pages 35 and 36 in the Setup
& Operation section and pages 69 and 70.
