The following sections contain general guidance on engine and airframe sensor
installation. This information is provided for reference only. The installer should
always follow any installation guidance and instructions provided by the applicable
engine, sensor, or kitplane manufacturer. Additionally, all installation practices
should be done in accordance with AC 43.13-1B.
5.6.3.1
Ammeter Sensor (Alternator and Generator)
Sensor Description:
Alternator: 100 Amp / 50 mv shunt
Generator: 300 Amp / 50 mv shunt
General Installation Guidance:
Both the alternator and generator ammeter shunts should be installed on the high side between the B lead
(or equivalent) and the aircraft power bus. See Section 5.6.2.6 for additional ammeter sensor installation
details.
5.6.3.2
Tach Generator (Ng and Np)
Sensor Description:
The tach generator provides a 19.5 – 21.0 Vac output to the Sandia ST26 signal conditioner. The ST26
converts the tach generator output to a digital signal that the GEA 71 can use to determine the different
engine speed parameters.
General Installation Guidance:
Tach generators will be mounted on a pre-existing pad on the engine and will be driven by the engines
tachometer drive gear. Consult the Globe 22A703 specifications and engine manufacturer documentation
for additional installation details.
5.6.3.3
Pressure Transducer (Fuel, Oil, and Torque)
General Installation Guidance:
Contact the engine manufacturer or supplier for guidance on appropriate mounting of all pressure
transducers.
Refer to the applicable engine manual to identify the appropriate connecting port on the engine
for the parameter being sensed. Once identified, use appropriate aircraft-grade hoses and fittings
to connect the corresponding port on the engine to the sensor. The male threads on the sensor
pressure ports are 7/16-20UNJ4-3A.
The electrical connector provided is a PTIH-8-4P or equivalent and should conform to
MS33656E4. Connect the supplied connector to the appropriate inputs on the GEA as referenced
in the G900X/G950 interconnects in Appendix F-J. Secure the connector and wire assembly to
an appropriate location in the engine compartment to provide strain relief.
