If the camera detects smiling faces, the shutter is __
automatically released without pressing the shutter-
release button (Smile timer). The skin softening
function (_52) makes facial skin tones softer.
1 Frame the picture and wait for the subject to
smile.
• When the camera detects a human face, a ydlow double
border (focus area) is displayed around that face. When
the camera hasfocused on that face, the double border
will light in green for a moment and focus is locked.
• Up to three faces can be detected. When more than
one face is detected, the face closest to the center of the frame is framed by a double
_- border and the others by single borders.

-_. • If the camera detects that the face framed by the double border is smiling, the Smile
timer (_51) feature is activated and the shutter is automatically released.
• Each time the shutter is released, automatic shooting using face detection and smile
detection is repeated.
2 Shooting ends.
• To finish automatic shooting of smile detection, perform any of the following operations.
- Turn off the camera.
- Set the Smile timer to Off,
- Rotate the mode dial to switch to a shooting mode other than [] (Smart portrait) mode.
Notes on Smart Portrait Mode
• The digital zoom is not available.
• Under some shooting conditions, faces and smiling faces may not be detected properly,
• See"Notes on Face Detection" ([_75) for more information.
[] Auto Off in Smile Timer Mode
When using the Smile timer, the auto off function (_101) is activated and the camera turns off
when either of the situations indicated below persists and no other operations are per_rmed.
• The camera does not detect any faces.
• The camera detected a face, but cannot detect a smile.
[] When the Self-timer Lamp Flashes
When the camera detects a _ce, the sd_timer lamp flashes,The lamp quickly flashes immediately
after the shutter is released.
