The camcorder automatically uses slow
shutter speeds to obtain brighter
recordings in places with insufficient
lighting=
• The camcorder uses shutter speeds
down to 1/30 (1115 in mode or
in with [_3e HDV(PF30)],
1t12 in with cinema effect
[_24 HDV(PF24)] or [_F
HDV(24F)]).
• : Set the flash mode to ®
(flash off).
• If a trailing afterimage appears, set the
slow shutter to [_ OFF].
• If ,_ (camcorder shake warning)
appears, we recommend stabilizing the
camcorder, for example, by mounting it
on a tripod.

[_ OFF], [_ 40X], [_ 200X]
Determines the operation of the digital
zoom,
• When activated, the camcorder wiii
switch automatically to the digital zoom
when you zoom in beyond the optical
zoom range,
• With the digital zoom the image is
digitally processed, so the image
resolution will deteriorate the more you
zoom in.
• The digital zoom indicator will appear in
light blue from 10x up to 40x and dark
blue from 40x up to 200x.
• The digital zoom cannot be used with
the [_:_ NIGHT] recording program.
• A still image cannot be recorded
simultaneously on the memory card while
recording movies using the digital zoom.

[_ VARIABLE], [_ SPEED 3],
[_ SPEED 2], [_ SPEED 1]
• When set to [l_] VARIABLE] the zoom
speed depends on how you operate the
zoom lever: Press lightly for a slow zoom;
press harder for faster zooms.
• The fastest zoom speed can be
achieved with [_ VARIABLE]. Among
the fixed zoom speeds, [_ SPEED 3] is
the fastest and [_ SPEED 1] the
slowest.

[_ INSTANT AF], [_ NORMAL AF]
Select how fast the autofocus will
operate.
• With [_ INSTANT AF] the autofocus
adjusts quickly to a new subject. This is
convenient for example when changing
the focus from a near subject to a far
subject in the background, or when
recording fast moving subjects.
• When the optional Wide-converter or
Tele-converter is attached to the
camcorder, it may partially obstruct the
Instant AF sensor. Set the AF mode to
[_ NORMAL AF].
