To display the magnification level, RGBA channels, safe zones, or Layer Wireframe mode
in all open views, Ctrl-click (Windows) or Command-click (Mac OS) the corresponding
button or menu in the Composition window.
To display the grids, Shift+Ctrl-click (Windows) or Shift+Command-click (Mac OS) the
Title-Action Safe button.
To switch all views to Checkerboard Backgrounds, hold down Ctrl (Windows) or
Command (Mac OS) as you choose Checkerboard Backgrounds from the Composition
window menu.
To change view properties for one view for a given composition:
Do any one of the following:
To display the RGBA channels, safe zones, Layer Wireframe mode button, or magnifi-
cation level, click the corresponding button or menu in the Composition window.
To display the grid, Shift-click the Title-Action Safe button.
To close all views of the composition:
1 Choose Edit > Preferences > General.
2 Make sure that the Close Multiple Views Simultaneously box is checked and click OK.
Note: If this preference is chosen, holding down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) as you
close a composition overrides the preference and closes only one composition view. Alter-
nately, if this preference is not chosen, then holding down Alt or Option as you close one
view closes all composition views.
Changing 3D Rotation values
When you now access 3D Rotation values from either the Layer menu or with a keyboard
shortcut, you now enter those values in a single dialog box that displays a text box for
each axis coordinate—rather than choosing each coordinate separately from a menu, as
was the case in After Effects 5.0. This makes it quicker to enter coordinates. To access the
Rotation dialog box, choose Layer > Transform > Rotation.
Using new layer Material Options
Use the new layer Material Options to do the following:
Specify how much light shines through a layer to create colored shadows and stained-
glass effects
Control a layer's shadow-casting ability
Establish the "metallic" quality of the reflected light
Creating colored shadows and stained-glass effects
Instead of merely casting black shadows, layers can now act like transparencies and can
cast their color on another layer. Using a new Transform property called Light Trans-
mission, you set the percentage of light that shines through a layer. You can also create the
effect of light passing through stained glass by placing a light behind a layer and adjusting
its light transmission.
