Deleting items in the Project window without an alert
When you are sure you want to delete a Project window item, you may not need a warning
dialog box to appear before the deletion takes place. To delete a Project window item
without a warning dialog box appearing first, select the item or items you want to delete
and press Ctrl+Backspace (Windows) or Command+Delete (Mac OS).
Using new palette and window features
After Effects 5.5 introduces new palettes and additions to existing windows that allow for
quick access to settings, footage, and tools.
In addition to the features below, After Effects 5.5 adds multiple composition views that
you can use for more precise layer and effect placement. Multiple views work in both 2D
and 3D. For details on multiple composition views, see "Using multiple views" in
chapter 23.
Cycling through tools
You can now cycle quickly through all the available tools in the toolbox. A triangle in the
bottom right corner of a tool button indicates that other tools are accessible for that
button, but hidden. To access these hidden tools quickly, hold down Alt (Windows) or
Option (Mac OS) as you click the tool button. You can also press the tool's corresponding
keyboard shortcut repeatedly. For example, press C multiple times to cycle through the
camera tools.
Setting Wireframe view in the Composition window
The ability to quickly switch your Composition window view to Wireframe mode is useful if
you want to quickly reposition a high-resolution or data-intensive layer. To turn Wireframe
mode on or off, click the Layer Wireframes button
window.
Resetting the anchor point
Dragging the anchor point with the pan behind tool repositions both the layer's anchor
point and adjusts the layer's position in order to maintain its visual location in the compo-
sition. New to After Effects 5.5 is the ability to quickly reset the anchor point to be the
center of the layer. Once you reset the anchor point, the layer retains the same position
value but changes its visual location to account for the new anchor point position. To reset
the anchor point, double-click the pan behind tool
point and reset the position to the center of the composition, hold down Alt (Windows) or
Option (Mac OS) and double-click the pan behind tool.
