Fractal Noise (PB only)
This effect uses randomness to create textures and objects that cannot be described using
simple geometric shapes. Use this effect to create organic-looking backgrounds,
displacement maps, textures, and mattes. You can also simulate things like caustics,
clouds, lava, flowing water, and gas.
If you animate the Evolution option, the result is smooth changes of the noise over time,
such as clouds passing by or flowing water. Use the Evolution options to create loops for
faster rendering time.
For more information, see the After Effects product section on Adobe's Web site.
Lightning (PB only)
This effect creates lightning bolts and other electrical effects, including a "Jacob's Ladder"
effect (as seen in old horror movies) between two specified points in a layer. The lightning
effect is automatically animated without keyframes across the time range.
Set keyframes for the Start Point and End Point properties to create a "Jacob's Ladder" effect.
Use the Wiggler to add randomness to the lightning bolt. For more information on
using the Wiggler, see "Adding randomness (PB only)" on page 304.
For more information, see the After Effects product section on Adobe's Web site.
PS+Lens Flare (PB only)
See the Adobe Photoshop User Guide or online Help for information on using this effect.
Radio Waves
This effect generates waves from an effect point and can be used to create pond ripples,
sound waves, or intricate geometric patterns. Use the effect's options to control the
emitted shape's number of sides; the width, color, and quality of the line; and the speed,
rotation, life span, and the fade rate of the shapes. The Reflection option makes the
emanating shapes bounce off the sides of the layer.
Radio Waves generates realistic wave displacement maps that work well when combined
with the Wave World and Caustics effects.
For more information, see the After Effects product section on Adobe's Web site.
Ramp
This effect creates a color gradient, blending it with the original image contents. Create
linear or radial ramps and vary the position and colors of the ramp over time. Use the Start
and End of Ramp options to specify the start and end positions. Use the Ramp Scatter
control to disperse the ramp colors and eliminate banding, or use Ramp in 16-bit mode.
Note: Traditionally, ramps do not broadcast well; serious banding occurs because the
broadcast chrominance signal does not contain sufficient resolution to reproduce the
