This feature is available on Rev D1 and Rev E with the BIOS Version 1.4.x and the F8680.EXE tool.
With the F8680.EXE tool , the FAST-BOOT mode can be enabled or disabled. Default is disabled.
What happens when the FAST-BOOT mode is enabled:
-
no memory test in the SuperState init are performed
-
several routines in the BIOS are optimized
Ø
If you have a problem with any application, try it again with NORMAL-BOOT mode.
The FAST-BOOT mode gain time upon booting the system.
Boot-time: (all values measured with CGA, for VGA add 1sec to any time)

FASTBOOT with HD-Driver

Normal Boot Mode with HD-
Driver and installed Harddisk
The current MSM/MSE286 Modules work with 14 or 16 MHz without problems. 18 MHz and 20 MHz
also possible, but the specifications are not guaranteed.
The Boot-time is measured from power-up to the DOS5.0 message / prompt appears on the screen.
!! This value is higher than 16 MHz because the JEIDA/HD timing in the normal mode is incorrect.
The HD-Driver is a BIOS Extension, which is only used, when a IDE-Harddisk should be connected.
