Draining the system HYP1100, HYP1278, and HYP1300 model
drives
If at least three hoses are available, you can drain the heat exchanger and the input/output
inductors at the same time. If multiple hoses are not available, repeat this procedure as needed
to drain all of the components. See the previous figures in
model drives
for GHT locations on each drive model.
Note: Some HYP models have had inductor design changes (input and output) that do not
include an upper GHT connection and there may only be one lower or drain GHT connection.
The following special tools are required:
-
Wet dry Shop-Vac type of vacuum
-
Shop-Vac water drainage kit, Shop-Vac P/N 8018862
Complete the following steps:
1.
De-energize and lock out the drive using all applicable policies and appropriate drive service
literature.
2.
Remove the coolant reservoir cap.
3.
Attach the drain hose to the GHT faucet valve on the bottom of the shell and tube heat
exchanger.
4.
Place the other end of the hose in a suitable container for disposal of the trapped liquid.
5.
Open the heat exchanger valve to allow coolant to drain. After the coolant stops flowing,
close the valve.
6.
Attach the drain hose to the top fitting of the output inductor inside the drive cabinet.
7.
Attach the drain hose to the top fitting of the input inductor inside the drive cabinet.
8.
Place the other end of the hoses in a suitable container for disposal of the trapped liquid.
9.
Open the top valve of the input and output inductors to allow coolant to drain. When the
coolant stops flowing, close both valves and remove the drain hoses.
10. Attach the drain hose to the bottom fitting of the output inductor inside the drive cabinet.
11. Attach the drain hose to the bottom fitting of the input inductor inside the drive cabinet.
12. Place the other end of the hoses in a suitable container for disposal of the trapped liquid.
13. Open the bottom valves of the input and output inductors to allow coolant to drain.
14. Allow the coolant to drain until the draining visibly stops.
15. Ensure that the 2 (CTM Style) or 1 (Shaffner Style) coolant manifold valves on the inductor are
closed.
16. Fill the drive coolant reservoir with new inhibitor. Do not run the coolant pumps.
17. Open the bottom valves of the input and output inductors and allow the coolant to drain.
18. Only allow the coolant to drain until you can see new coolant coming from the drain hose.
This draining process purges the older coolant from the inductors. This process can capture
up to 3 gal of dirty or used inhibitor.
19. Close all manifold service valves.
20. For CTM style inductors, repeat steps 15 through 19 for the upper manifold connections.
Result
The system is now drained.
