  • Page 3 This manual should be retained for future reference. The KPHP Portable Heat Pump (KwiKool System) offers a safe alternative to heat strips. PHPs come in several sizes. Model KPHP1811 provides a 1.5-ton heating option and a 1.1- ton cooling option.
  • Page 5 B. AIR CHUTES (IF EQUIPPED OR AS AN OPTIONAL ACCESSORY) Install Supply Air flanges with the supplied fasteners to the front of the KwiKool System above the control panel. Use the supplied clamps to attach the air chutes to the collars. See instructions in the air chute kit for specific instructions.

  • Page 7 Make sure that the deflector is on the discharge (rear) duct from the KwiKool System. If • the condenser discharge and return space is unventilated, closed off or unable to handle the heat load, the Make-up Air will continue to get hotter until the system is not able to handle the high heat buildup.
  • Page 8 Verify the source power, phase and breaker size is compatible with the unit’s serial plate in- formation. The electrical circuit is dedicated only for the use of the KwiKool System. If in doubt, contact a licensed electrician. The KwiKool System comes from the factory with eight feet of power cable sized to fit the electrical specification of the unit’s electrical requirement.
  • Page 9 SECTION III - OPERATIONAL SAFEGUARDS Read the following warnings and safeguards carefully before installing or moving the KPHP. WARNING Do not operate or install the KPHP unit in a poten- tially explosive, combustible, or corrosive gas at- mosphere.
If the KPHP System makes abnormal noises or vibrations, call KwiKool at 1-800-KwiKool ( 1- 800-594-5665).
  • Page 12 Once power is engaged by plugging in your system and/or switching the breaker to the ON position, your KwiKool System display will come alive and show the current room tempera- ture. The unit is set to OFF and the fan is set to the default position. A 2.5-minute time delay starts, indicated by a flashing F or C on the display.
  • Page 13 FAN, for Manual (Cool mode only) or Auto Fan function. • NOTE Operators of KwiKool Systems will not have control of the Supply Air fan when in HEAT Mode. The Supply Air is controlled by a pressure switch to op- timize the systems operation and this switch over- rides the microprocessor selection.
  • Page 14 Lowering or raising the set point will not change the temperature of the Supply Air. For best results al- ways adjust the set point to a temperature at which your KwiKool System can cycle on and off to avoid operational issues such as freezing or rapid fan cy- cling.
  • Page 15 NOTE In each mode except FAN, the currently operating mode is blinking on and off while operating in that mode. If the icon is not flashing, then the system is not calling for that operation because the set point is met, or the system may be in time out, signified by the F or C next to the room temperature display blinking on and off.
  • Page 16 NOTE The heat function on KPHP Systems will require a time delay for compressor operation; therefore, there is a 2.5-minute delay in starting in Heat mode and the Supply Air fan may cycle On to Off. OPERATING MODE, AUTO COOL/ HEAT (optional) 1.
  • Page 17 If activated, the operator will hear a click. D. AUTOMATIC RESTART In the event of a power loss, the KwiKool System resumes operation when the power is re- stored, if in the ON position when power was lost. All operational functions are saved in the memory of the control.
  • Page 18 • There is an automatic reset upon correction of the condensate flow. If this alarm is engaged, the system will not operate in COOL, FAN or HEAT mode. Call 1-800-KWIKOOL, if this alarm is present on initial startup. G. LOW PRESSURE SWITCH AND ALARM Protects the KwiKool System from potential damage to the mechanical system by shutting down the system and alerting operators of the condition.
  • Page 19 B. AIR TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS - HEAT MODE The environmental requirements of your KwiKool System at the installation site are 40 to 80 F for the Supply Return Air located on the front of the unit. If the unit is operated in an environ- ment above 80 F, the HP Reset switch may trip, stopping the unit’s compressor.
  • Page 20 C. CAPACITY & TEMPERATURE SETTINGS Sizing of the KwiKool System is based on matching capacity to a specific heat load while maintaining a 72 degrees F temperature. In order to maintain temperatures at 72 degrees F, the unit must have correctly-sized capacity.
  • Page 21 5. Tighten the cap to the point where the angle connector on the condensate bottle lines up with the nipple extending out from the drain pan on the KwiKool System and insert the bottle by pushing down slightly to clear the extended drain pan nipple. Be sure the drain pan nipple is inside of the angle connector and the cap is snug and not cross threaded to avoid water leakage.
  • Page 22 SECTION VIII - TECHNICIAN PARAMETERS Entrance into this function is gained by a long press of the MODE button until it beeps and flashes a lock icon, then a long press on the FAN button until it beeps, then release the FAN button and once again a long press on the FAN button.
  • Page 23 SECTION IX - USER PARAMETERS Entrance into this function is gained by a 3-second press on the SETTINGS button. Another short press on this button changes the temperature display to C or F. Use the FAN and Mode buttons to scroll through the different settings while in User Parameters. Select ON/OFF to exit or after 1 minute the display will default back to the operating screen.
  • Page 24 SECTION X - FAULT CODES LIST Your KwiKool System incorporates a self-diagnostic system that sounds an audible alarm, stops the system and displays a fault code (shown below) to indicate the nature of the prob- lem on the display panel. See the troubleshooting guide later in this manual for further infor- mation.
