APM PROGRAM

The Advanced Power Management (APM) program pro-
vides four power management modes and some hardware
settings.
APM Idle saves system power through the use of an Idle
Detector. The Idle Detector monitors system hardware
and puts the system into Suspend mode when the system
is idle. (This mode does not work with some software
packages.)
CPU Standby slows the CPU clock speed after a
specified time of system inactivity.
Global Standby puts specified devices in Standby mode.
Auto Standby automatically puts the system in Suspend
mode after a specified time-out. System components are
either slowed or deactivated. (These include memory, the
VGA controller, video memory and more.)
APM works together with the settings that you specify
through the Power Management utility. You can disable the
power management modes and change the timeout settings
for each mode.
If you do not enable Power Management settings through
the utility, the default APM settings remain enabled.
See Appendix B for default settings specified in APM for
specific devices. Appendix B also details the status of
devices in power management modes.
