Using the SCU

WHAT IS THE SCU?

Your computer has battery-backed memory (internal
CMOS memory) where it stores information about your
Versa S hardware and software even when power is off.
Each time you start up the system, this information is read
and used.
Whenever you change your hardware, the system changes
how it sees itself. For example, if you install optional
memory or upgrade your hard disk drive, a special program
called the System Configuration Utility (SCU) tells the
system about the change. In turn, the system lets you use
the new option.
The System Configuration Utility also lets you check and
modify how the information is set up in the computer
memory. You can reset the date and time, change the
CPU clock speed, set a password, and activate power
management features.
This chapter describes how to use the SCU and the avail-
able menu and submenu options.
