P30 and S30 Low Voltage VSD
Section 1: Product Description
The INSTRUCT* P30 Intelligent VSD and INSTRUCT S30 Intelligent VSD are Sensia's low voltage variable
speed drive system that provides high performance and sophisticated power and motor control at the
surface. While the P30 drive is equipped with an INSTRUCT PCP Controller and customised for Progressive
Cavity Pump (PCP) applications, the S30 drive is equipped with an INSTRUCT SRP Controller and
customised for Sucker Rod Pump (SRP) applications. Both the P30 and S30 drives are built based on the
same drive architecture and have slot-based hardware design that reduces unnecessary add-ons and
provides users more flexibility to select option modules that suit their application.
The enclosure for the drives is a NEMA rated cabinet which contains a motor controller (refer to
Controller), power converter, and other associated power components, such as control power transformers,
circuit breakers and fuses. Optional items such as input harmonic filter, DV/DT filter, Surge Suppression
Devices (SPD), UPS power supply, and other power components can be added to meet more demanding
electrical requirement. In addition, several other configurations such as space heater, sinewave filter, and
stainless-steel enclosure can chosen for different application needs.
Optional equipment that is external to the drives may be installed and combined at the wellsite. This
equipment is application dependent and is outside the scope of this manual. However, the connection to the
drives is described to ensure proper use and application of the optional equipment with the drives. Any
communication equipment, such as the SCADA system, used in interfacing with the drives is mentioned only
in the context of basic connection and communication instructions along with some troubleshooting
procedures. For specific details and instructions, refer to the product information specific to the
communications product.
Note
It is important to know the type of drive at the time of commissioning or troubleshooting since several of
the drive components are not interchangeable and troubleshooting procedures are different.
It is essential to check the proper spare parts list for the drive on the engineering drawings and contact
Control Systems
when ordering spares since some parts are not interchangeable between drive lines.
1.1 MOTOR CONTROLLER
The drives are equipped with a motor controller: P30 drive is equipped with the INSTRUCT PCP Controller
while S30 drive is equipped with the INSTRUCT SRP Controller. These controllers provide motor protection,
monitor motor operating parameters and performance, and can interface with external devices and SCADA
systems. For the details of the controller, refer to the respective controller manual below:
