4. Configuring SNMP Using the CLI

Configuration of SNMP in the NetVanta 1760 consists of retrieving the ASE MIBs needed for the network and
enabling and configuring the device to be polled by a NMS. The NetVanta 1760 can be configured using SNMP
v1/v2c or SNMP v3 security.

NOTE
By default, SNMP is disabled on all ASE switches for security purposes. Adtran recommends
configuring the ASE device with SNMP v3 security, if possible.

Retrieve the ASE Product-Specific MIBs

Before you begin configuration, download the MIBs you want to install on your NMS. Retrieve the NetVanta
1760 MIBs,on Adtran's website at the following link:
https://supportcommunity.adtran.com/t5/General-MIBs/bd-p/sw-general-mibs. Select NetVanta 1760 (ASE) to
initiate a download of a zip file containing the NetVanta 1760 MIBs.
After downloading the MIBS, connect to the ASE CLI and begin configuring SNMP in the ASE device as
outlined in the following sections:

Configuring SNMP Using v1/v2c

The following steps detail the CLI commands used to enable SNMP management on the NetVanta 1760 for
SNMP v1/v2c:
To begin configuring SNMP in the ASE device using the CLI, connect to the ASE CLI and follow the steps
outlined in the following sections.

Step 1: Enable SNMP on the ASE Device

Use the snmp-server command to enable the SNMP engine on the NetVanta 1760:
