4.7.2 Connecting a Peripheral to a Modem Port
The basic DECsystem 5100 has one modem port, situated between MMJ port
3 and the status LED display. The optional DHT80 asynchronous module (if
installed) provides a second modem port.
The following procedure describes how to connect a peripheral to one of the
modem ports on the back of the system unit:
Turn off the DECsystem 5100 and the peripheral, by setting the on/off
switches to the off

position.

Choose an unused modem port.

Press the 25-pin D-sub connector on the peripheral cable into the chosen
modem port.

If the connector has screws on either side, tighten them with a small
screwdriver.

Turn on the peripheral by setting its on/off switch to the on ( I ) position.

Turn on the DECsystem 5100 by setting its on/off switch to the on (I )
position.
Figure 4-8 shows how to connect a peripheral cable to the modem port.
