6.2 Preparing the FieldSpec® 3 Spectroradiometer
and Ergonomic Pro-Pack for the Field

Chapter 6 Transporting and Carrying the FieldSpec® 3
Place into the shipping case any accessories for the FieldSpec
spectroradiometer, instrument controller, and Ergonomic Pro-Pack.
When you arrive on site and unpack the FieldSpec spectroradiometer from its
shipping case, you will need to re-pack the spectroradiometer in the
Ergonomic Pro-Pack before use.
The Ergonomic Pro-Pack and FieldSpec spectroradiometer are designed for
both right-handed and left-handed use.
Think twice before orienting the FieldSpec spectroradiometer to have its fiber
optic cable on your dominant side in the Ergonomic Pro-Pack, because you
may want your dominant hand free for other tasks, like one-handed typing.
Generally speaking, operating the fiber optic accessory will probably require
less dexterity than operating the instrument controller and typing one-handed.
Taking this into consideration could affect the decision about which side the
fiber optic accessory will be placed on.
Follow the instructions given in
spectroradiometer and Ergonomic Pro-Pack from the shipping case.
Place the Ergonomic Pro-Pack on a flat surface with the shoulder straps
towards the floor.
Remove the instrument controller from its compartment on the outside of the
Ergonomic Pro-Pack.
Undo the five (5) plastic connectors which hold the spectroradiometer in the
Ergonomic Pro-Pack.
Determine which hand will be using using the fiber optic accessory.
Figure 6-8 shows the fiber optic cable on the left-hand side, because the user
wanted his right-hand free to operate the instrument controller.
Orient the spectroradiometer in the Ergonomic Pro-Pack such that the fiber
optic cable is on that side.
The FieldSpec spectroradiometer has to have its plastic end-caps aligned with
the top and bottom of the Ergonomic Pro-Pack. Other than this, the orientation
of the spectroradiometer in the pack doesn't matter (e.g., cable side on left or
right; mesh side close to the shoulder straps or away)
Use the five (5) straps to secure the spectroradiometer in the pack.
