P R O C E D U R E
The STU-III/R has astorage location for one Net Variable. It is not
necessary for the storage location to be empty (zeroized) before
performing the fill procedure. When the STU-II fill procedure is
performed, the new Net Variable will overwrite the old variable if
one was present.
Use the following procedure to fill the STU-III/R with STU-II keying
m a t e r i a l .
Ensure that the STU-III/R is powered and the ONLINE
i n d i c a t o r o f f .
E n s u r e t h a t t h e Z E R O I Z E s w i t c h i s n o t i n t h e Z E R O I Z E
position.

Align flat area on fill device connector with red dot
o n S T U - I I F I L L c o n n e c t o r .
Press firmly and rotate KYK-13 slightly clockwise
until fully seated on connector.

Align flat area on cable connector with red dot on
S T U - I I F I L L c o n n e c t o r .
Press firmly and rotate cable connector slightly
clockwise until fully seated on connector.
N O T E
If aSTU-III fill device is installed in the keyceptacle, the STU-IIIIR
will attempt to do aSTU-III fill instead of aSTU-II fill.
Press and hold the FILL pushbutton until the FILL
indicator lights. The STU-II indicator will begin flashing
indicating that aSTU-II fill is in progress.
Turn on the KYK-13 or pull the paper tape through the
KOI-18. The indicators will stop flashing, and the STU-II
indicator will light when the keying material is loaded.
When the FILL indicator begins flashing, press the FILL
pushbutton until the flashing stops (approximately 21
t i m e s ) .
