series
Four terminals are provided for the thermometer onboard RS485
communications. Connection to these terminals by a PC with an RS485 port
enables use of the bundled IQ series configuration software. From the software
interface, many more configuration parameters are available. Refer Section 5.1
of this User Guide, or to the IQ Windows Configuration Software User Guide for
more details.
The RS485 terminals also allow the customer to communicate digitally with the
thermometer using a plant computer/PLC, PC (using Hyperterminal or similar)
or any other RS485 enabled capable device. Using the thermometer in this
manner allows the user to connect multiple thermometers to a shared RS485
bus. Each thermometer can be allocated a unique address (by separately
configuring the thermometer using the IQ series configuration software or
Hyperterminal) so the plant computer can identify which thermometer to
read/write data from/to. The RS485 communication protocol is published in
Appendix A of this User Guide.
The second terminal strip also allows connection to two alarm relays. The
relays are fully configurable from within the IQ series configuration software or
over the RS485 digital communications.

6.3 Using the Brainboxes USB/RS485 convertor

For configuring the IQ digital models, you can use an RS485 connection and the
IQ setup software.
In 4-wire transmission (full duplex RS485), 4 wires run from TXD or RXD on the
master to the opposite (TXD or RXD) on the slave(s).
