Setting Up the Configuration Environment

(1) Setting Up the Environment
Connect a PC to the console port of the switch by using an Ethernet cable.

(2) Connect cables.
a Connect the DB-9 connector of the cable to the serial port of the PC used to configure the switch.
b Connect the RJ45 end to the console port of the switch.
(3) Set HyperTerminal parameters.

Start the PC and run the terminal simulation program on your PC, such as Terminal on Windows 3.1 or
HyperTerminal on Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP.

Set terminal parameters. Set Bits per second to 9600, Data bits to 8, Parity to None, Stop bits to 1, and
Flow control to None.
a Navigate to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications and select HyperTerminal. The
HyperTerminal window appears.
b Click Cancel. The Connection Description dialog box will appear.
