Preparing
the
Mouthpiece
(all
units)
Perform the following donning
steps without hesitating in approx.
20
seconds.
O
Take the breathing hose out of the
housing and brrng it
up
to your
mouth
to
activate
oxygen
produc-
tion.
The breathing
bag
will
be
filled
withinlto2minutes.
Do not twist or
bend
the breathing
hose!
O
Remove
the
plug from the mouth-
piece.
O
Put
the mouthpiece
into
your mouth
straight
away!
lnserting the Mouthpiece
O
Open your mouth and put the
mouthpiece
between
yourteeth and
your
lips.
WARNING!
The
mouthpiece
is
of limited
use
for
persons with denlures.
O
Hold the mouthpiece tight with your
lips.
O
Pullthe
nose clip
apart,
then push
it
over
your nostrils. The
clip
must
completely shut your nostrils.
O
Use
your
hands
to
unfold of the breathing bag, if
necessary.
ATTENTIONI
lf
the breathing bag has not inflated, exhale
several
times to
fill
the
breathing bag with ambient
air.
O
Breathe
steadily.
O
Don protective goggles.
O
Don chest strap:
-
Take both parts
of
the chest strap (see "What
is
What" on page
14)
out of the
oxygen
self-rescuer.
-
Pull the left part of the chest strap around your
body.
-
Close the buckle.
-
Pull the strap tight.
Note
Dräger recommends practising
this
procedure with the
training
unit.
lmportant
Rules
during Escape
-
Stay
calm when
leaving
the danger zone; do not
rush.
-
Plan
your escape
to
be sure that you chose the shonest route
on
your
way
to safe ambient
air.
-
Do not panic. Panìc causes
hasty,
shallow breathing
which
uses
up
more
oxygen.
-
Make sure
to
keep
the
mouthpiece firmly
gripped
between teeth and
lips and
to
keep
your lips closed tight.
-
Warm and
dry air
coming from the
oxygen
self-rescuer
is a
sign that the
unit
¡s
functioning
properly. You might not¡ce that the air coming from
the
oxygen
self-rescuer
has
a
strange taste,
but
this
is
normal and
harm-
less.
-
Take
care
not to
waste lifesaving
oxygen
by
damaging
or
squashing the
breathing
bag.
-
lf
you need to
vomit,
take
the
mouthpiece out
of
your mouth and
use
your thumb
to
hold
it
shut. Do
not
vomit into the
oxygen
self-rescuer.
Do
not inhale again before putting
the
mouthpiece back into your
mouth
to
prevent an intake of toxic air from the environment.
Disposal
The oxygen
self-rescuer
is
to
be discarded after
use.
Deactivating Spent
Oxygen
Self-Rescuer
-
Keep
the unit awayfrom combustible substances
(petrol,
grease, sol-
vents etc.)
at all
times
to
prevent danger of firel
-
Wear protective goggles and
gloves.
-
Remove
staderfrom
the housing and discard
it
according to
local reg-
ulations.
-
Remove KO2 cartridge from the housing.
-
Keep
dismounted
KO2
cartridge completely immersed
in
water
untiì no
more gas bubbles emerge. Use
a

acid, e.g. HCl, at
a

to
neutralìse the resulting solution.
-
All plastic components
are marked and can be
sorted
according
to
their
material characteristics
f
or recycling.

Transport Regulations
When
being transported, breathing protection equipment
is
subject
to
international
transport
regulations.
Breathing protection equipment
is
classified
as:

Starters of damaged
and/or
opened and partially spent
breathing
protec-
tion equipment must be act¡vated before transport. After
cooling
down, the
breathing protection equipment
hasto
be
sealed in
a
plastic bag. The unit
has
to
be brought to the
shipping
department
in an
approved packaging
(e.9. Dräger Transport packaging

Maintenance
The user
may
carry out the
following
repair procedures by himself:
Replacing
the
Indicator Window

Use
a
screw driver
to
carefully
remove
the defective indicator wìndow.
O
lnsed
the
new indicator
window
into the indicator housing
by
applying
a
small amount
of
pressure.
Replacing
the
Pictograph
O
Use
a
sharp-edged tool, e.g.
a
razor blade,
to
remove
the defective
pic-
tograph.
O
Use
a
degreasing agent
to
clean the surface.
O
Affix new pictograph.
lnspection and Service
O
Inspect the unit on
a
daily basis (see "Daily lnspection" on page
11).
O
Observe
inspection
intervals (see "Service Data" on page
15).
