If the LOCAL DISABLED message is displayed, check to
ensure your computer is properly connected to the STU III/
SECTEL data port.
If the REMOTE DISABLED message is displayed, the other
party's terminal is not properly connected to the STU III/
SECTEL data port.
If either message is displayed, your STU 111/SECTEL will
return to the secure voice mode.
If you have checked the connections, and continue to have
problems entering the data mode, exit the secure mode and
refer to Chapter 8, Troubleshooting.
@Transfer data with the other computer using your computer's
telecommunication software. Refer to your
telecommunication software manual for instructions.
NOTE
Do not place the handset on the handset cradle while you are transmitting
data; doing
so
will disconnect the terminal.

If the data you are transmitting suddenly becomes garbled
and unrecognizable, the STU 111/SECTEL may need to be
resynchronized. Press
I
SECURE
I
to resynchronize.
The resynchronizing process will take approximately one
second; after it is finished, transfer your data in the normal
manner.

After you have finished, exit the data mode in any of the
following ways:
• Press
I
VOICE/DATA
I.
You will exit the data mode but remain in
the secure voice mode. Note the message display
annunciators SECURE and VOICE are on.
• Press
I
CLEAR
I.
You will exit the data and secure modes and
remain in contact with the other party. Note the message
display annunciators CLEAR and VOICE are on.
