Advantages of Permanent Magnets
Small
Inexpensive
Low maintenance
Batteries are not required
Despite these benefits, because of the permanent magnet's static
magnetic field, it may be difficult to locate a pig that is stalled,
obstructed, or otherwise immobilized in a pipeline. In these situations,
an active (electromagnetic) transmitter is the recommended option.
Electromagnetic Transmitters
The CD52 Bandit detects active electromagnetic transmitters.
CDI offers the largest family of pipeline pig location and tracking
transmitters in the industry.
Our Transmitters operate by emitting electromagnetic fields at a very
low frequency (between 15 and 32 Hz). This makes CDI's pig tracking
transmitters safe and reliable for use in any onshore or offshore
environment and any pipeline product (water, oil, gas, ammonia,
carbon dioxide, etc.).
Many models even have the ability to remain dormant until activated
by preconfigured pipeline pressure.
