5-4. Connecting The Battery

NOTICE − Lead acid batteries discharge
when stored in any temperature. Units that
are stored should have the battery
recharged every three months and before
being put into service. To preserve opti-
mum battery performance and life,
recharge battery in storage when the
open−circuit voltage drops to 12.4 volts
DC when measured across the battery
terminals.
! Connect negative (−) cable last.
NOTICE − Wait two minutes after engine
shutdown before disconnecting battery or
engine controller may be damaged.

Battery is most easily accessed through
the rear panel. Remove battery access
panel from rear panel. Connect battery,
negative cable last. Reinstall battery ac-
cess panel.
S Do not allow the battery cables to
touch opposing terminals. When con-
necting the battery cables attach the
positive (+) cable to the positive (+)
battery terminal first, followed by neg-
ative (−) cable to negative (−) battery
terminal.

S Never start the engine when the
cables are loose or poorly connected
to the battery terminals.
S Never disconnect the battery while
the engine is running.
S Never use a quick battery charger to
start the engine.
S Do not charge battery with Engine
Control switch On.
S Always disconnect the negative (−)
battery cable before charging battery.
! Stop engine.
1 Battery Disconnect Switch
The battery disconnect switch dis-
connects battery voltage from the
circuit. When the switch is turned
Off, the front panel controls do not
work.
To run unit, turn switch to On posi-
tion. To prevent unit from running,
turn switch to Off position.
The switch may be locked using a
customer-supplied padlock.
