Air Valve Piston Assembly (continued)
Quick-Disconnect and Internal Piston O-Rings
7. If the piston rod/quick-disconnect (6) has failed,
clean the foam material off the parts. If this does
not correct the problem, replace the piston rod/
quick-disconnect.
8. To remove the piston rod/quick-disconnect (6),
hold the piston rod flats with a 7/16" open end
wrench while turning the piston bolt (13); the parts
are secured with Loctite . See Fig. 35. Mark the
orientation of the pistons so they can be reas-
sembled the same way.
CAUTION
Pistons are specifically oriented. The piston
assembly will not function if parts are assembled
improperly.
9. Remove and inspect the o-rings (24, 25) inside the
piston separator (11) and the o-ring (33) on the
rear piston (15) every 1 to 1.5 million cycles. See
Fig. 36.
10. If the o-rings (25, 24, 33) are worn, replace them.
Lubricate and reinstall the o-rings.
11. Apply high strength Loctite to the piston bolt (13)
threads. Install the piston rod/quick-disconnect (6).
Torque the piston bolt to 10 ft-lb (13.5 N m). See
Fig. 35.
