Belt Maintenance

Check the condition and tension of the alternator belt
after the first day of operation and every 100 operating
hours thereafter.
Tensioning the Alternator
Belt
Service Interval: After the first 8 hours—Check
the condition and tension of the
alternator belt.
Every 100 hours

Prepare the machine for maintenance; refer to
Preparing for Maintenance (page

Open the hood; refer to
41).
3.
Check the tension of the alternator belt by
pressing it
(Figure
alternator and the crankshaft pulleys with 10 kg
(22 lb) of force.
Note:
The belt should deflect 11 mm (7/16
inch). If the deflection is incorrect, proceed to
step 4. If belt tension is correct, skip to step 7.

Loosen the bolt securing the alternator to the
brace, and the alternator pivot bolt.

Insert a pry bar between the alternator and the
engine and move the alternator outward.
