Appliance Setup

A. Remove the Shipping Materials
WARNING! Risk of Fire! Close the ball valve before in-
stalling the splatter guard to prevent accidental lighting.
Remove the splatter guard before lighting the appliance.
Remove shipping materials from inside or underneath the
firebox.
Finishing strips are also shipped with this appliance.
Remove from shipping location. Do not discard. De-
pending on the decorative barrier front and finishing
method chosen, finishing strips may be required. See
Section 10.E.
The splatter guard is a piece of corrugated material
used to protect the appliance during the installation
process before finishing work on the whole hearth is
complete. Splatter guards may be factory installed
or accompany the decorative barrier front of the ap-
pliance, depending on the fireplace model. Splatter
guards must be removed before appliance is fired.
B. Clean the Appliance
Clean/vacuum any sawdust that may have accumu-
lated inside the firebox or underneath in the control
cavity.
C. Install the Brick Refractory or Black
Glass Liner
Note: Black Glass Liner instructions follow Brick Refrac-
tory instructions.
Brick Refractory
1. Locate the back refractory panel and turn it so the
grout lines will align with the grout lines on the side
panels when installed. Install the back refractory pan-
el as shown in Figure 11.1. Carefully place it on the
back air passage return bend behind the log stop.
2. It is necessary to hold the back refractory panel with
one hand while installing the side refractory panel as
shown in Figure 11.3. Photos show the right side be-
ing installed first.

3. Locate the notch on the side refractory panel, high-
lighted in Figure 11.2.
4. Install the side refractory panel as shown in Figure
11.3. Level the side refractory panel and gently push
it toward the back of the firebox until it meets the back
refractory panel, holding it in place. Figure 11.4 shows
the side refractory panel installed.
Note: When the side panel is properly placed, the bottom
front edge extends outward over the firebox lip as noted
in Figure 11.4. The top front edge remains flush with the
front edge of the firebox.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the other side refractory panel.
