4 – Digital I/O Interfaces
4.1 –USB/RS232 communication interface
The communication interfaces allow data transfer from/to computers and data
loggers.
All data can be acquired in real time or request triggers can be generated by the
computer or manually by the operator.
4.1.1 – Connecting to a computer or data logger
For the USB interface use a standard USB cable type "AB", readily available at
computer stores.
When the equipment is connected for the first time it will be required installation of
communication drivers (available for Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems). The
USB drivers are available at Metrolog website (www.metrolog.net) or into the equipment
CD-ROM.
To use the RS232 serial interface a standard patch cable must be used.

Note: If the computer or data logger have only a DB25 connector input, use a
standard DB9 to DB25 adapter.
In both cases, RS232 or USB, the software will communicate to a standard UART
port mapped in the operating system (for the USB connection the communication driver
will create a virtualized COM port).
Note: the USB and RS232 cannot be used simultaneously. In case both cables are
connected, the USB will have priority and the RS232 interface will be disabled.
