3.3 – Measurement routine
To inspect the local fusion strength index of an EPS part just insert the needle inside
the selected area, making sure 60% to 100% of the needle length is inside the part. It is
recommended to measure regions with minimum wall of 10mm. The best inspection
places are function of part geometry and structural function. The local fusion strength
index can vary from section to section in the same part, and the acceptable index can
also vary based on the part project and structural requirements.
Around 300ms after needle positioning the local fusion strength index will appear on
the LCD and bargraph. With default factory settings, the equipment will display 4 different
values on the LCD, as shown in Picture 7. Highlight (A) indicates the instantaneous index
measurement and will change continuously during needle positioning. Highlight (B)
indicates the number of acquired samples for average and standard deviation calculation.
Highlight (C) indicates the sample average index from n acquired samples. Highlight (D)
indicates the standard deviation based on the same sample population.
The
key can be used at any time to change what information is displayed on the
LCD. The user can enable or disable instantaneous readouts, average and standard
deviation values, if desired. Optionally this same setup can be accessed using this menu
