13. Reinstall all removed parts.
14. Place the computer in an upright position. Then, reconnect the power cord and all disconnected cables
to the computer.
Note: If a locking device is available, use it to lock the computer.

System board

Prerequisite
Before you start, read Chapter 1 "Important safety information" on page 1 and print the following
instructions.
Notes:
• Each computer has a unique Vital Product Data (VPD) code stored in the nonvolatile memory on the
system board. After you replace the system board, the VPD must be updated.
• Your microprocessor sockets and socket covers might look slightly different from the illustrations in this
topic.
• Do not touch the pins on the microprocessor socket or the gold contacts on the microprocessor.
Replacement procedure
1. Record the cable routing and cable connections, and then disconnect all cables from the system board.
See "System board" on page 52.
2. Remove the computer cover. See "Computer cover" on page 54.
3. Remove the front bezel. See "Front bezel" on page 56.
4. To get access to the system board, remove the following parts if any:
a. Remove the 3.5–inch storage drive. See "3.5–inch storage drive" on page 65.
b. Remove the storage drive bracket. See "Storage drive bracket" on page 67.
5. Remove the M.2 solid-state drive. See "M.2 solid-state drive" on page 70.
6. Remove the memory module. See "Memory module" on page 74.
7. Remove the card reader. See "Card reader" on page 77.
8. Remove the Wi-Fi card. See "Wi-Fi card" on page 84.
9. Remove the eight screws that secure the system board, and then carefully lift the system board out of
the chassis.
Note: Carefully handle the system board by its edges.
