Medium/Fine Antenna Alignment

This section describes fine alignment of the wireless terminal antennas using the RSSI
readings available from the base station and the wireless terminal. It is recommended
that wireless terminals, especially those using high-gain antennas, be fine-adjusted
using the RSSI measurements. The base station antenna requires only general
alignment.
Important: The wireless terminal can measure the RSSI only after a wireless link
has been established. Note that the wireless terminal transmits only when permitted
by the base station.

Using the Web Alignment Tool (Wireless Terminal Only)

The Web Alignment Tool HTML page provides continuous RSSI updates to the Web
browser on a laptop computer or a Web-enabled handheld device.
Start a Web browser on the test PC, enter the wireless terminal TCP/IP address in
1.
the address bar, and login to the wireless terminal.
Click
Utilities->Antenna Alignment
2.
The Web screen is updated automatically at one second intervals.

Medium Antenna Adjustment Using the Audible Adjustment Tool

Following the basic (coarse) antenna alignment, additional adjustment can be made
using the audible alignment buzzer in the wireless terminal. A faster repetition rate of the
buzzer sound indicates a stronger signal being received from the remote-end
transmitter. Adjust the wireless terminal antenna using relatively small changes in first
the elevation, and then in the azimuth to obtain the fastest repetition rate. The audible
alignment buzzer is normally turned off and must be enabled using a Web browser or
Telnet session. Use the following steps to enable or disable the buzzer.
Web:
Start a Web browser on the test PC, enter the wireless terminal TCP/IP address in
the address bar, and login to the wireless terminal.
Click Configure ->
Locate the field Antenna Alignment Buzzer Enable (bottom of screen) and click in the
box to enable this feature. A checkmark ( ) indicates the buzzer is enabled.
Click the Apply button (bottom of screen) to activate this change. The audible
alignment signal will remain active until this field is disabled (click to uncheck), or the
wireless terminal is rebooted/power-cycled.
CLI:
Open a Telnet session on the test PC and login to the wireless terminal.
Use the following command to enable the audible alignment tool. The audible alignment
signal remains active until this field is disabled.
