External antenna options are available for the Model 8551 Access Point that can increase
the product's range. Contact your Proxim reseller for more information.
Proper antenna placement can help improve range. Here are some guidelines:
G The Model 8550 Access Point's integral diversity antenna should be placed so
that it emits its signal in the appropriate direction. For best results, place the
antenna in the up or vertical position, as shown in Figure 1 on page 13.
G An external omnidirectional antenna for the Model 8551 Access Point should
be placed in a vertical position. It can be mounted upside down to the ceiling or
a beam.
G Place the antenna as high as possible. In an office environment, try to place it
above cubicle walls.
G Do not place a sheet of metal (like a filing cabinet) between two antennas.
G Two antennas that are communicating should be in the same plane. For
example, do not lie one antenna on its side and have its partner standing upright.
