iS50 AEM User Guide
This section covers these topics:
Checking the Desiccant
Replacing Sample Compartment Windows
If your AEM is sealed and desiccated, that is, if the system is not purged, you will have to
regularly check and occasionally change the desiccant packets. The desiccant protects the
optical components by reducing the amount of water vapor inside the AEM.
The desiccant compartment is located towards the back of the AEM on the left side. Check
the round blue indicator on the desiccant compartment cap once a month.

For instructions to change the desiccant, refer to "Replacing the Desiccant" in Spectrometer
Help Topics. You can regenerate and reuse spent desiccant. To learn how, refer to
"Regenerating the Desiccant" in Spectrometer Help Topics.
NOTICE When the spectrometer power is off, keep all covers closed tightly and check the
humidity indicator at least once a month. The desiccant should be replaced at least once
each year regardless of the color of the humidity indicator. Depending on your lab
environment, your may need to replace the desiccant more often.
