4.2 Headers and Connectors

Fan Headers
There are four 4-pin fan headers on the motherboard: two (FAN3~FAN4) on the front plane
(see locations below), and two (FAN1~FAN2) on the HDD backplane. All these 4-pin fan
headers are backwards compatible with the traditional 3-pin fans. However, fan speed control
is available for 4-pin fans only by Thermal Management via the BMC interface. Refer to the
table below for pin definitions.
TPM/Port 80 Header
The JTPM1 header is used to connect a Trusted Platform Module (TPM)/Port 80, which
is available from Supermicro (optional). A TPM/Port 80 connector is a security device that
supports encryption and authentication in hard drives. It allows the motherboard to deny
access if the TPM associated with the hard drive is not installed in the system. See the layout
below for the location of the TPM header. Please go to the following link for more information
on the TPM: http://www.supermicro.com/manuals/other/TPM.pdf.
4-pin External BMC I
A System Management Bus header for IPMI 2.0 is located at JIPMB1. Connect a cable to
this header to use the IPMB I
definitions.
