Checking the Laser Fiber with the Pilot Laser

Before starting the therapy, and also after replacement, the laser fiber must be checked as
follows:
Press PILOT button and set pilot beam brightness to maximum (100 %) using the
"Setup / Pilot" menu item (see section 6.15.2 "Pilot Laser", page 66).
Check laser fiber for potential damage over its entire length. Should the red pilot light exit
from the fiber laterally, this clearly indicates a fiber defect.
From a distance of approx. 4 cm, direct the pilot laser vertically at a light surface.
The pilot laser light must produce a clearly delimited, round red spot on the target surface as
shown in the left picture. If the beam spot is too large or blurred (see the two pictures in the
middle and on the right), the laser fiber must be checked and replaced if necessary.
CAUTION
Avoid eye damage!
Switch off pilot laser when checking the distal end of the laser fiber or laser focusing
handpiece for potential damage!
