Section 10: Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting the RVSS can be divided into several regimes:
Pre-Start Faults
Ramping Faults
Running Faults

10.1 Pre-start (power-on) faults

When AMPGARD RVSS is energized, the control electronics
performs an extensive self-check sequence. The DSP performs
checks whose results are displayed as MUI status messages.
The MUI will display the last uncleared faults from the previous
energized period. No additional operations will be permitted until the
faults can be reset. This can be accomplished by correcting the faults
and using the MUI RESET button, or resetting the BCM using some
remote input, such as the inControl Motor Control screen Reset, an
external Reset pushbutton wired into input IP3, or a communications
link signal to the Reset bit in Fieldbus Control Word 3.

24 VDC power supply
The 24 VDC power supply located in the RVSS low voltage control
compartment has a status LED, "DC OK, " which will illuminate if the
power supply is energized and operational.

48 VDC power supply
The 48 VDC power supply located in the RVSS medium voltage
compartment has a status LED, "DC OK, " which will illuminate if the
power supply is energized and operational.

BCM
The BCM will perform startup checks, and indicate, using the Status
LED, the presence of any faults or warning states (see Figure 35).
10.1.1.4
I/O Board
The I/O Board performs power-up checks, and indicate its status
using onboard status LED D31 (Ready) and D34 (Faulted) (see
Figure 39).
10.1.1.5
MUI
The MUI has Status, Fault and Warning indicators on its faceplate.
The Status indicating LED provides status as
10.1.1.6
Communications
BCM to MUI
The BCM has a status light for each of its communication channels.
For BCM to MUI communication, CH1 (channel 1) indicates the
status of communications between the two devices (see Figure
109).
BCM to I/O Board
The BCM has a status light for each of its communication channels.
For BCM to I/O Board communication, CH2 (channel 2) indicates
the status of communications between the two devices (see Figure
109).
Fan-out Boards to Gate Driver Boards and PTC interfaces
The Fan-out Boards receive and distribute SCR gate firing signals to
the Gate Driver Boards. I/O Board fiber optic signals connect to the
Fan-out Boards and are distributed to the Gate Driver Boards. There
they are converted from light signals into voltage signals for the SCR
gate to cathode connections. In addition, SCR heat sink temperature
signals from the Gate Driver Boards are passed through the Fan-out
Boards to the I/O Board for processing.
